It’s Friday again and time for 7 Quick Takes at Conversion Diary.
1. Another Snow Day
My two youngest sons are happily home from school (and still sleeping at last glance). Buses were canceled today since we’re in the midst of another snowstorm. Truth be told, I like both the fact that my boys are home AND the snowstorm (especially if I don’t have to drive in the snow!)
2. Lent is Coming!
In anticipation for Lent, I’d like to share a few of my favorite Lent books:
Welcome Risen Jesus by Sarah Reinhard
Bring Lent to Life by Kathleen Basi
Bringing Lent Home with Mother Teresa - Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle (New!)
3. Cool Two Minute Lent Video
Want to learn what Lent is all about in two minutes? Check this out. (The purple wording is hard to read, but otherwise a short and to the point video!)
4. Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day is the second day of Lent this year. All next week (Feb. 12-16), my book Come My Beloved: Inspiring Stories of Catholic Courtship will be FREE on Kindle. Read about how some famous and not-so-famous Catholic couples met and fell in love.
5. Excellent Article
Excellent article by Jen entitled “Those Catholic Women Who Use Contraception.’

Hi Ellen, I feel such great pain when I hear the courageous priests who are now speaking out from the pulpit about abortion because of the HHS madate and yet fail to tell their parisheners that if they are using artificial birht control they are in fact probably having chemically induced abortions. We (the church) seems to have lost its zeal for truth out of fear that we might offend. Or perhaps our good priests don’t realize that truth themselves. GOD HAVE MERCY ON HIS CHURCH AND ESPECIALLY ON HIS SHEPHERDS AND BRING THEM INTO THE FULLNESS OF TRUTH WITH THE COURAGE TO PREACH IT OUT OF LOVE FOR THE GOD WHO DIED FOR US AND THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS IN THE PEWS THAT ARE STILL IN THE GRASP OF THE EVIL ONE THROUGH CONTRACEPTION!

Agreed, Carol. But not all priests have lost their zeal to tell the truth. I know many who courageously proclaim the evils of contraception…and very thankful they’re so courageous.

Thanks for the link to Jennifer’s column. Under our previous bishop priests who explained Church teaching on contraception were chastised and sent to Outer Podunk. Under our current bishop they are punished by being given multiple parishes and hospitals to service as if there are more than 24 hours in a day and are barred by some pastors from setting foot on their parish grounds.
You’re welcome, Barb. Sad situation in your diocese. I hope the tide is turning and more bishops are doing the opposite of what you describe…God bless…
I miss the snow!! It has been many many years!
You are right – excellent article by Jen. And excellent words from Reagan!
Thanks, Colleen! I suppose I would miss the snow too, if I lived in a milder climate.
